Finally finished this one! I am utterly proud of the result, I'm not going to hide it. :D

So, let's talk about the process... Which is pretty straightforward:

- I used a grid to draw the initial outline of the drawing with a mechanical pencil, 0,5 HB.
- Erased the grid.
- Shaded with a ballpoint pen.

Tools (it's pretty easy :)):
- Winsor&Newton A5 sketchbook 170gsm;
- Mechanical pencil, 0,5 HB;
- Regular eraser (to erase the grid);
- Black Bic Crystal Medium ballpoint pen.

Time: Around 30 hours.

You said, "I am utterly proud of the result, I'm not going to hide it."
Don't understand this remark. It's not a familiar phrase. :sun::skull:

I mean that I am not going to hide the fact that I am very proud of the result. Maybe it's not an expression you use in the USA... Basically I'm telling that I am proud of the result, that's all...

This is great. I've recently started using bic pens and have trouble getting the light gray tones smooth like you have done, without it blobbing up. Could it be the pens or my patience?

Or maybe it could be the paper, I have been using Bristol.

Hi Ron, first of all let me tell you that I'm a big fan of your ballpoint pen drawings and I'm glad that you are commenting on my page. :)
About the smooth grey, I work in layers of crosshatching. I make these layers with very light pressure on the paper, sometimes no pressure at all. To avoid ink blobs I am constantly cleaning the tip of my pen with a paper tissue. The pens I use are the regular Bic Crystal Medium, I think they're great!
It could be the paper yes, but I've never used Bristol. As a matter of fact, I just bought a Bristol Board but haven't used it yet, so I can't compare...
Although this is a sketchbook (170gsm), the paper is rather smooth. Maybe not Bristol smooth but for a sketchbook I think it's very good.
I hope it helps. ;)

This is fantastic, Vitor! All of the effort you've put into this has been worth it - He looks so happy and adorable (and this is coming from someone who doesn't exactly 'love' kids :p ), and his eyes are so bright! The way you've done his shirt is pretty cool, too!
Top effort, as always :D

Thank you very much Mel! :) It was a great effort indeed, I never had spent so much time on a drawing before. Hey, you're talking about the cutest kid in the world so you bet he looks adorable! :D
Seriously, thank you very very much for the kind words. :)
I have to go finish the watch now...

You're most welcome, old chap! Praise where it's deserved, I always say :p
He is pretty dang cute, and I'm sure he'll love the drawing when he's older! :)

Yes, please finish it! You've got us all on tenterhooks, waiting..

Thanks again!
I hope he'll like it when he understands what it is. A good point is that he recognizes himself when I show him the drawing, I take it as a compliment! :D
Haha :D, maybe this week if I manage to dedicate some time to it. To be honest, I can't wait to call it done and move on to the next one... :)

That is a compliment indeed! Its certainly something to be treasured later on. :)
Haha, it would be nice :p You've nearly finished though, right? Just a wee bit more, then you can finally call it a day!
If I may be so forward, what do you think you might work on, next? :D

Well, the frame is ready to receive it. It's a priceless drawing to me! :)
I usually have two different different drawings going on, one on my A5 sketchbook (usually ballpoint pen), and another one on A4 paper (the gold watch). I haven't decided yet about the next A4 drawing, maybe a more personal drawing, maybe another pulp fiction based one or a more classic celebrity portrait... If you have any suggestion I would be glad to read it. :)
My next A5 ballpoint pen serious drawing will probably be my wife, she also deserves a tribute! :D

Gahh, so many things at once! Though I can't talk :p
She most certainly does! Especially for creating that adorable kid :) I'm sure she'd love a portrait of all of you together (possible Mother's Day gift?)
I'm not good at drawing suggestions, but when you've time, Anne Hathaway as Cat Woman might be a nice challenge - All that black fabric!

Actually this one was supposed to be a mother's day gift, but it arrived a little late. I suck at time management! :D
Catwoman would be a good challenge, Anne Hathaway's costume is a tricky one with all this little scales. But I like the fact that it's very 'black', good for a ballpoint pen drawing I think. It's hard to get the really dark black with graphite.
In the meantime I'm working on an "experimental" quick drawing, you can check it on my facebook page if you want... ;)

I thought about doing something a little different for the shirt, to draw less attention and I kinda like it. :)
