So here it is! :D
This is by far the most difficult drawing I ever got myself into. I wanted to push myself further to see what I could do with all the things I have been learning lately.
All the drawing was a learning journey and I take with me a lesson from every single part of it.
The idea of this Pulp Fiction scene came from a contest run by the great artist *Ilojleen (I thank her for that).
Of course I couldn't finish the drawing in due time because of my lack of knowledge and time.
I am more than happy with the result, I hope you like it as much as I do! :)

Thanks for watching and feel free to leave comment, it will be very much appreciated!

I hope you all like it!

Love this scene. Christopher Walken rocks!

*Just a note: I'm a professional illustrator and I like your drawing; I can see you want to protect your hard work from being used or credited to someone else. I assume that's the reason for the copyright notice.

For your reference: In this case, copyrights belong to Pulp Fiction owners [probably Miramax Films] since this is a still frame from their film.

You can copyright artwork as an original as long as it's from reference material for which you own the rights or from imagination.

In that case, mentioning that the art is your creation [which is not legally licensed to be reproduced in commercial print; although that is largely overlooked in small print runs at trade shows etc.] and the character or theme is copyright the respective owner.

This is intended to help you and I sincerely hope it does.:sun::skull:

Hi there, thank for taking the time to write this comment and for pointing that out to me!

I have no intent to violate copyrights, when I wrote the copyright notice at the bottom I didn't think about that... But I know you are right, actually I have been reading about this kind of issues but I left this copyright by mistake. Maybe I should remove it...

Since you are talking about this, if you don't mind, I would like to ask you something about another drawing of mine, the George Clooney one fav.me/d68zvd3
In that case, what would be the copyright issues? Of course I drew it from a reference which I don't own the copyrights but it's not a copy (like The Gold Watch). And I seriously don't know if the original reference is identifiable.
So, would this be considered fair use as it's not a perfect copy and it wouldn't bring any prejudice to copyright owner? Can I draw a celebrity without infringing copyrights?

This is a subject I don't know very well so if you could help me understanding it a little better it would be great! ;)

Below are loosely understood facts sprinkled with experienced opinion. I've seen many artists use reference from the internet, magazines, and publications for artwork. Always depends on some specific variables, including where it's sold and displayed. Had to take business courses in art school and have gone to many events where such items are for sale regularly.

I think it depends on how close the end result resembles the actual reference. I did a caricature of George Clooney and had to find a reference to compare afterwards for a blog article. Found one that was near enough that side by side they were comparable, although I didn't use it for drawing. If your reference has different clothes, camera angle, lighting, and/or setting from the drawing, that should be alright for artist copyright of the drawing [but of course not George Clooney's likeness.]

We're allowed to draw satirical cartoons and poke fun through freedom of the press [the cartoon is copyright the creator]; artists can also create pop images for 'fine art' originals [the painted idea as a work of art is copyright.] We can even create work for small print runs as long as photographers work is not infringed upon. Most celebrities would likely feel that such work improves their exposure. You can draw originals for your portfolio, display them publicly or even sell the originals. Some artists do this with photos considered 'public domain' or uncredited photos that have been used or seen often.

A couple of things to bear in mind with 'Fan art': Intellectual properties, where your work competes for profit with the copyright owner and celebrities who make most or a significant amount of income based from licensing their likeness; they are not likely to see your artwork, but would not be happy if you sold large volumes of unauthorized prints over the internet. If you have permission for a specific photo reference, especially on a high profile project, it's better for everyone.

Where commerce is concerned, best to consider who, what, when, and where when selling prints. Take each situation case by case, and Ask for advice and research anything you're unsure about... www.copyright.gov/ :sun::skull:

I'm sorry for such a late reply but I haven't been around deviantArt for a while.
First, let me thank you for your extensive reply.

I think you summed it up pretty well. Looking at my case, I try realism or hyper-realism (as you prefer to call it) and I know in this particular case I infringing the photographer copyright rights. Unless I make changes to the original reference photo as you mentioned.

It's true we see a lot of people around the internet selling original drawings and prints based on copyrighted photographs so I would assume that as long as you don't become world wide famous you will be ok...

I'm not selling but when I do I'll have to take these issues into consideration. Also, maybe I won't do realism forever.

Thank you and have a nice day! :)

It's an awesome scene indeed. I didn't time it in hours but I would guess around 30 or 40 maybe... I started it way back in November so it took 7-8 months but I only worked on it from time to time.
Thank you for commenting and for the fav as well, I really appreciate it! :)
